Al Hassan Group organizes Strategic Omanisation Workshop (19 Dec 08)

Omanisation is one of the key priorities for the Al Hassan Group of Companies. Al Hassan has always been in the forefront of Omanisation and has won many accolades including the coveted Green Card from the Ministry of Manpower for several years. Al Hassan strives to develop not only the basic skills of locals but also to cultivate leadership in Omanis. It is with this larger purpose that a workshop on Strategic Omanisation was held at Ruwi Hotel on 17-18 December 2008. Twenty five participants were drawn from across the decision making levels of the organization especially Omanis from the management and the executive cadre.

Strategic Omanisation Workshop

The workshop was inaugurated by Hassan Ali Salman, Chairman, Al Hassan Group who emphasised the importance of learning as an ongoing, life long activity. Maqbool Ali Salman, Managing Director, Al Hassan Group in his keynote address urged the participants to believe in their capabilities and take initiatives so as to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Mr Sanjay Khandagale, Talent Manager at Al Hassan was the Faculty for the workshop.

The participants were led through a process of understanding and tapping their own aspirations and building a collective vision. The reality analysis was done at length and the participants were energized to create and start taking action to see that whatever they want, they 'can' do it. In order to ensure that the vision of Omanisation gets fulfilled, the action plan was made in the form of a Balanced Score card. The process involved making a strategy map for Omanisation by the team and establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The "outcome criteria" were also established so as to continuously monitor and review the Omanisation process in the right spirit.

Strategic Omanisation Workshop

For the Al Hassan top management, this was a unique opportunity to analyse the challenges faced in Omanisation and the possible solutions for implementing the strategic map and executing the KPIs so as to ensure meaningful Omanisation. The concept of Balanced Score Card gave an impetus to the entire process of Omanisation in terms of planning for the short-term and long-term, balancing the softer human development issues and the financial outcome. The team came out with a Vision Statement for Omanisation which says, "To build capable, competent and competitive Omani staff so as to contribute effectively to the growth and profitability with maximum productivity."
