Al Hassan and Siemens extend Medium Voltage Switchgear cooperation agreement (31 March 2011)

Al Hassan Power Industries LLC (AHPI), part of the Manufacturing SBU of the multi-million dollar Al Hassan Group signed an OEM agreement with Siemens LLC Oman on 30 March 2011 for manufacture of Medium Voltage Switchgear in Oman.

Al Hassan is by far the leader in Switchgear Business having the largest market share in Oman with a good part of its production exported to Arab Gulf Co-operation Council (AGCC) countries. Al Hassan manufacturing facilities at both Ghala & Buraimi are ISO 9001 : 2008 compliant and its products are certified by leading international testing authorities KEMA, ASTA & UL. AHPI started manufacturing Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear with technical know-how from Siemens in 2001.

The new agreement was signed by Eng. Talal Al Assaad, CEO-Manufacturing & Trading, Al Hassan Group and Mr. Markus Strohmeier, CEO, Siemens LLC, Oman in the presence of Dr. Wolfgang Heuring, CEO, Siemens MV, Germany and Mr. Matthias Becker, Head of Siemens, Medium Voltage - Lower Gulf.

The latest agreement between the two parties covers two new Siemens MV Switchboard models, viz., 8BK88+ and NXAIR. 8BK88+ is a product designed for the Utilities segment with the most compact design, while NXAIR is designed for the Oil & Gas sector as well as for more technically stringent projects in other industries.

After signing of the agreement, Dr. Heuring, who was on his first visit to Oman, said, "The Siemens partnership with Al Hassan has been historically successful and Al Hassan is considered a highly reliable and trusted partner; therefore, it was very clear from the beginning that we would continue our association with Al Hassan. In fact, the new agreement will enable Al Hassan to access new portfolio of MV products developed by Siemens worldwide". He added, "Siemens continues to invest substantially in R&D in order to provide its customers with innovative and cost-effective products and solutions." He stressed that technical cooperation with Al Hassan is a significant step in developing the industrial base in Oman.

Eng. Talal Al Assaad commented, "Al Hassan tremendously values its partnership with the world renowned electrical giant Siemens and hopes this renewed technical association will enable Al Hassan to provide its valued customers with MV Switchgear comprising the latest technological innovation from Siemens. The new agreement will enable Al Hassan to source MV Switchgear from Siemens facilities worldwide." Eng. Talal further stated that Al Hassan is investing in new plant, equipment machinery and people in its Ghala and Buraimi Units as part of its continuous initiative to maximise its offerings.

Mr. Markus Stohmeier congratulated Al Hassan on signing of the new OEM agreement and mentioned that this agreement will see a new era of cooperation and Siemens will provide the best technical support to Al Hassan in order to ensure the highest product quality for its Omani customers. He further indicated that in future plans are afoot to widen the scope of partnership with Al Hassan by providing value added services to clients such as installation, testing, commissioning and servicing of Medium Voltage Switchgears installed in Oman.

Mr. Matthias Becker, who is based in Abu Dhabi, said, "Recently Siemens has restructured its businesses into three major segments to provide sustained focus to its core business. After the restructuring exercise, Al Hassan is the first company with which Siemens has signed this type of agreement, which will offer the customers in Oman the widest range of Switchgear products including AIS (Air Insulated Switchgear) as well as newer version of "green" products. Siemens is keen to increase its market share in Oman and is hopeful about the upcoming projects in Oil & Gas, Power, Water and Infrastructure sectors in Oman which will provide good opportunities to deliver Al Hassan MV switchboards with cutting edge Siemens technology to customers."
