Hi-Tech Services & Supplies organizes Seminar on Pipeline Welding (14 April 2011)

Hi-Tech Services and Supplies LLC (Hi-Tech), part of the Trading SBU of the Al Hassan Group along with its principal, Böhler Welding Group, Austria jointly organized a technical seminar on welding consumables for Pipeline Welding and Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) Materials on 13 April 2011 at Hotel Crowne Plaza Muscat, with the aim of showcasing cost effective and efficient pipeline welding solutions.

The Hi-Tech team was in full attendance led by Mr. Abbas Jamal, GM-Trading SBU, Al Hassan Group while Böhler Welding Group team comprised Manfred Höfer, Technical Regional Manager, Mr. Sandish Salian, Technical Sales Manager and Balaji Narasimhan, Area Sales Manager.

Mr. Höfer began the seminar by sharing the latest International trends in the Welding Sector and an interesting analysis of Global Statistics of Volumes in welding consumables. Later, he outlined the advantages of using basic low hydrogen electrodes for Pipeline welding. He also spoke about usage of higher grades of steels in the Oil & Gas and Petrochemicals sector. He presented a number of international as well as regional case studies regarding welding on CRA material for pipelines and other structures / vessels. He concluded the seminar with discussion about common challenges faced by the welding industry and Böhler’s portfolio of innovative solutions for addressing the same.

Around 40 delegates from Oil & Gas companies like PDO, Oxy and leading contracting & consultancy firms like Al Hassan Engineering, Arabian Industries, Galfar, GPS, Mott MacDonald, STS, Seeh Al Saraya, Técnicas Reunidas, TOCO, Worley Parsons attended the seminar and found it quite useful. Many of the delegates commented that the seminar provided a good platform for knowledge sharing and a roadmap for future developments in the welding sector. One of the delegates, Mr. Said Rashid Al Asmi, Infrastructure Pipeline System & Projects Manager – UIP, PDO appreciated the efforts being made by Hi-Tech & Böhler to spread awareness about better welding techniques to reduce the operational cost and project duration.
