Al Hassan Group signs agreement with Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries to support rural women (19 April 2012)

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Al Hassan Group, Oman’s leading Business House engaged in Contracting, Manufacturing & Trading activities, recently signed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to support livelihood of rural women at Ad Dakhliyah Governorate.

Mr. Maqbool bin Ali Salman, Managing Director - Al Hassan Group signed the agreement with HE Dr. Dr Ishaq bin Ahmed Al Ruqaishi, Undersecretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries in the presence of HE Dr. Fuad bin Jafar bin Al Sajwani, the Minister of Agriculture & Fisheries and several dignitaries including Director Generals and high ranking officials.

HE. Dr. Ishaq thanked Al Hassan Group for its generous support and acute recognition of the importance of the role of rural women in the community and granting them an opportunity to improve their earnings. Dr. Ishaq requested the private sector to adopt more such initiatives to support agricultural and livestock activities for rural women.

Commenting on Al Hassan Group’s initiative, Mr. Salman said, "As a responsible corporate entity, Al Hassan is deeply committed to the community. Agriculture plays a vital role in the national economy of Oman and through this initiative, we hope that rural women will be able to increase their incomes, and build better lives for themselves and their families. This in turn encourages the building of a strong society that values and cares for its people."

Mr. Salman added, "Al Hassan has gone out of its way to make the concept of CSR an integral part of its day-to-day activities. The various companies of the Group annually allocate a specific amount of its budget to invest in various community programmes. Our efforts to enhance the lives of the local community start at the project site, with our recruitment and training of the local community, empowering them with specialised skills and improving their employment potential. "

He emphasized : To safeguard the lives of the local people, Al Hassan regularly conduct traffic awareness and community safety trainings. We also conduct health and environmental awareness programmes for the local community to adopt good health and hygiene practices. Leveraging on our construction expertise, we take it upon ourselves to improve the local infrastructure, by repairing existing amenities from roads to drainage systems, and building new facilities for water, electricity and other necessities.
