2009 was a particularly good year for AHEC in terms of various milestones. AHEC was the only Omani Company to be nominated among the top four finalists by an independent panel in the "Contractor of the Year" Award category, announced by Construction Week, Dubai, for its ability to safely deliver projects on time and within budget.

SAOG celebrates several milestonesIn the Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals sector, AHEC was selected by Petrofac E&C to execute the construction contract for PDO’s Phase II Expansion of Kawther gas-field depletion-compression project. For the Korean Company, GS Engineering & Construction, AHEC completed two major Civil, Mechanical and Pipework Contracts, one at Sohar on the Sohar Aromatics Plant and the second at Salalah on a Methanol plant. In the beginning of 2009, AHEC secured a multi-million dollar contract for the Burhan West and Harmal Pipeline Project from the Government Gas Department. This contract on EPC basis was completed 4 months ahead of Schedule in Jan. 2010. What makes this achievement even more significant is the fact that this is the first PDO Project to include a 33 kV Overhead Line using Concrete Poles (instead of usual wooden poles).

As far as Power Sector is concerned, AHEC has an extraordinary record in the field of power generation, having installed approximately 40% of the total generating capacity of Oman. Working with the French EPC contractor Alstom, AHEC completed the 1000 MW Gas Turbine based Combined Cycle Power Plant for Sohar Aluminium, the largest power plant in Oman. In the second half of 2009, we were awarded the Amal Power Plant Project from PDO on EPC basis. This is the first time that any Omani Company will be undertaking a Power Plant Project on EPC basis.

In 2009, AHEC made its entry into the regional international market, securing an order from Siemens to undertake Civil Works associated with a new Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) 400/132 KV Substation in Dubai. Work is progressing in line with the agreed Project Programme for the contract to the satisfaction of both Siemens and DEWA, the end customer.
